Délano Gaasbaak is a junior data engineer at Blenddata. After completing his master’s degree in Data Science & AI, he wanted to work at a smaller company with a family atmosphere. He says: “It was important to me that I could learn a lot: both technically and in other areas.”
He says: “In doing so, it was important to me that I could learn a lot: both technically and in other areas. I would like to develop in the field of project management and acquire skills for when I might want to start my own business in the future. A friend pointed me to Blenddata. That’s how the ball started rolling.
There is plenty of opportunity to grow at Blenddata. Working on a consultancy basis also gives you room to look around at different companies and gain experience. In doing so, you are involved in more than just technology. For instance, I was involved in the recruitment process within our organisation. Outside work, I also have broad interests and many hobbies. I like to do a lot of sport. For instance, I played football for a long time, I do strength training, running and boxing. In addition, I am into music, regularly cook elaborately and enjoy going out with friends.

Whereas they think things through on a conceptual level and deal with project management, as a junior you will have more of an executive role. But: the more experience you gain, the more you can take on the other side as well. You are certainly not just programming. For instance, I recently supervised a session to think out a piece of monitoring of a data platform: what do we need for this, how are we going to achieve it and with what timeframe? I get a lot of energy from that. My ambition is to fulfil a consultancy role, but I made a conscious choice to develop further in technology first. Blenddata is a very good place for that. My technical level has increased tremendously since I graduated.

As a junior, you will be well supported in your development. It also allows you to learn from each other and complement each other’s skills. The atmosphere in the office is very good. I don’t often feel like I’m going to work. The team feels like a group of friends. Everyone is motivated to come to the office and the option to work from home is not often used. Personally, I only do this because of the travel time. I come from Den Bosch and it saves an hour and a half if I work from home once a week.
We also see each other outside working hours. We often hang out on Friday afternoons, there are activities like Christmas dinner and carnival drinks, and last year we all went to Berlin for a long weekend. All these things make Blenddata a very nice employer. But perhaps most important to me is the company’s personal approach. Blenddata has an eye for you as a person: for your wishes and development inside and outside work. People really are the focus here.”
