Taking the team at the client to the next level

Client

DLL Group

The question

Efficient and scalable platform to suit business needs.

Approach

Recommend and implement a data platform roadmap.

Learnings

Bringing the team at the customer's site into your solution.

“The need for data at DLL is growing. To meet that, we need both technology and support.”

After several projects at Van Hout and Covolt, data engineer Rens Oostenbach is involved in an enterprise project for DLL Group, which is at the beginning of the implementation phase. Rens: “We take their data team to the next level: technically as well as in engineering mindset”

Through a comprehensive platform, DLL Group’s Data Management & Analytics team provides various data products to the organisation. Blenddata helps the team to scale up in technology and methodology, so they can meet the growing data need from the business: providing financing solutions for companies.

More time for the business

Rens: “Together with colleague Mart, I am working on various features to make the platform future-proof and fit the growing data need within DLL’s financial services. By automating things, there is less manual work and more time to focus on tomorrow’s business needs.

"Our Automation first solution was not just technical. It also requires a different way of thinking."

Contributing to major efficiency gains

One example of automation is the datalake managed by DLL’s platform team. “Together with colleague Mart, I am working on various features to future-proof the platform and match the growing data needs. Team members were spending a lot of time handling requests to access the datalake. We are now automating this manual process, which saves them an awful lot of time. The operational tasks of the data platform team have even decreased by 55%, a big efficiency gain for DLL.”

Bringing the team into the automation first mindset

Blenddata brings DLL’s data team along for the ride, allowing the team to adopt the automation first way of thinking and working and develop further. Rens: “Automation first means that you automate things that occur more than once. This way of working requires a different way of thinking. By involving team members in what we do, they make the new way of working their own.”

Building a better team

A project for an enterprise client offers an awful lot of development opportunities.

“As a consultant at Blenddata, you don’t just develop technically. You also learn how to take a team at the customer to the next stage. My ambition is to change the mindset of the team. A great challenge, where good communication is very important. I also learn a lot on the technical side because we deliver a lot of customised solutions that fit the customer’s systems and business model. Blenddata solutions are not already on the shelf somewhere ready-made. During development and implementation, you gain new knowledge and take big steps in your development.”

Convince and educate

Initially, the new way of working required persuasion. A nice challenge.

“Especially in the research phase of the project, some team members were still sceptical. Now, in the implementation phase, we are showing everyone what we do and why, and support is growing. The team now sees the benefits of automation and is eager to learn more about it. From Blenddata, we suggest training courses and offer additional support, for instance in the form of knowledge sessions. DLL is a nice company to work for. We are involved in the team and even get to join team outings.”
