Mansveld

The data is already there. Together with the customer, we translate it into concrete value.

The client

Mansveld

The question

Better control over invoicing, procurement and timekeeping.

The approach

Optimising the data platform with user feedback.

Learnings

The organisation increasingly sees the value of data.

With a master’s degree in Information Management and several years of experience in BI, Jay joins Blenddata. His first project as a data engineer starts at electrical services provider Mansveld, where he and senior colleague Harm take over from two colleagues.

Jay: “Mansveld has several BVs and uses different systems. Their wish was to gain more insight into things like time registration, invoicing, work stock and procurement processes. My predecessors had unlocked the data and prepared the most raw form. The next step was to combine and transform this data in such a way that Mansveld could use it.”

Steering without manual work

“For example, Mansveld wanted to be able to steer on hours made. Previously, registered hours had to be extracted from a system, put into a list and then sent to the right people. The higher goal was to be able to steer more on data across companies, without the need for manual actions. A team leader can now open a report himself and see who needs to do what.”

You get to ensure the success of a project yourself. You look for the tools that go with it yourself.

Learning and taking charge

“On this project, I immediately took charge myself. I jumped into the deep end under the guidance of Harm, COO at Blenddata. I wanted to learn to communicate progress with client stakeholders. What do we want to see, what data do we need for this, is what I have prepared correct? We prepare the week’s updates together and I give the presentation myself. If Pascal, Chief Information Officer at Mansveld, wants a certain insight, Harm asks me: what question do we need to answer for that? You have to understand the business side behind a question to achieve the goal. ”

Improving invoicing and projects

Mansveld is keen to know which teams and projects are running well and where there is room for improvement.

“From every project Mansveld can learn. If materials and hours can deviate from the budget, we can see what can be improved next time. If the follow-up of invoices deviates from the rest, a data platform can make that transparent. Blenddata makes sure the combined data is ready and transformed into how Mansveld wants it. I work with someone at Mansveld who makes the data visual, because he understands the business well.”

Data creates a purchasing advantage

Greater insight into the procurement process could provide Mansveld with significant financial benefits.

“Mansveld works with DGC suppliers where they get a discount if they buy a certain percentage there. Then it is very valuable to have a sharp idea of how much you buy there. Or, for example, the 2% discount you get when invoices are paid within two weeks. Then you want to know which invoices have to be paid to get that discount. Ideally, you would see that in a graph or list. We are now working on getting that done.”

Implement first, then optimise

With initial successes under its belt, customer demand continues to expand.

“The wish list initially consisted of more insight into hours, purchasing and invoicing. The exact demand evolved during the project. For example, the desire arose to gain more insight into general ledger accounts and movements. Our approach has a clear approach: start using the data platform and collect feedback in the organisation. How can it be made easier, what do users still miss, how is the internal reaction to this solution? With that, we can later look at further optimisation. That is the approach that suits this project.”

Bringing the customer along

“When I started this project six months ago, I expected to grow mainly on the technical side. Instead, I have grown more as a consultant. Getting data from A to B is a very complex process, especially for a client who knows the systems but doesn’t think in code. I share what we are doing and what the result is. So that he can decide whether we move on or cross over somewhere.”
